The Humor Us Writing Contest (the “Contest”), sponsored by AUTHORS, Inc. (“AUTHORS”), the creator of the a platform that connects writers, agents, and publishers to discover great manuscripts and Darcie Rowan PR & Social Media, are referred herein collectively as “Sponsors.”

This Contest is an opportunity for talented writers, whose work has some element of humor to it, to submit their manuscripts to a panel of judges for review. This is a great opportunity for authors to get exposure for their work. The prizes are wonderful too.

Official Rules


Please read these Official Rules before entering the Contest. You agree that, by submitting an entry, you will be bound by these Official Rules and you acknowledge that you satisfy all Contest eligibility requirements. This Contest is not a sweepstakes. Your entry will be judged by industry professionals and the winners will be chosen solely on their merits. This Contest is void where prohibited.

Eligibility. If you are an individual legal resident of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, 18 years of age or older at the time of entry you are eligible to enter the Contest. The Contest is not open to employees or independent contractors, or immediate family members (spouses, domestic partners, parents, grandparents, siblings, children, and grandchildren) of, or those living in the same household as, employees or independent contractors of the Sponsors, the Judges (defined below) any entity involved in any aspect of the Contest, or any of their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, advisors, or advertising/promotion agencies.

All entries must be original, written in the English language, and the entrant must be the copyright holder. The writer will retain the rights to their work no matter what the outcome of the contest. The entry must be targeted for a Young Adult audience (a work for a readership between the ages of 12 to 18) and the protagonist, story theme and point of view should be of the same age range. Only entries submitted through the Contest webpage on will be eligible for the Contest at:

Contest Period. The Contest begins at 12:00:01 a.m. CT on June 15, 2016 and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. CT on August 31, 2016 (the “Contest Period”).

How to Enter. During the Contest Period, you must visit and follow the instructions to complete and submit the online entry form and submit your entry, which will among other things require you to upload the first 30 pages of your manuscript. Full manuscripts are welcomed. Only entries submitted through the platform will be eligible for judging. Limit one entry per person and e-mail address throughout the Contest Period. To be eligible for the Contest judging, the Sponsors must receive your eligible entry by 11:59:59 p.m. CT on August 31, 2016. You may not submit multiple entries and anyone who submits multiple entries will be disqualified.

Judging. Judges are the following group of distinguished group of industry professionals: Anne Kostick of Foxpath IND; Erik Hane of Red Sofa Literary; Nicole Frail of Skyhorse Publishing; and Gary Goldstein of Citadel Press (“Judges”). Winners are determined by two rounds of judging. In the first round, judges will narrow down the entries to a group of semi-finalists followed by a final round. No critical evaluation or commentary of your entry will be offered by the Judges. The general submissions will be reviewed and determine if the entry qualifies the writer’s manuscript for review.

Prizes. The Sponsors will award the following three prizes:

First Place: A cash award of $200. A 30 minute Social Media Audit and Consultation from Darcie Rowan PR & Social Media.

Second Place: A cash award of $100. A 20 minute Social Media Audit and Consultation from Darcie Rowan PR & Social Media.

Third Place: A cash award of $50. A 15 minute Social Media Audit and Consultation from Darcie Rowan PR & Social Media.

If the actual value of any prize is less than the stated ARV, the Sponsors will not award the difference in cash.

Odds of Winning. Odds of winning depend on the number and quality of eligible entries received throughout the Contest Period.

Prize Award. Judging will be completed and the winners will be notified on or about October 10, 2016. The list of winners will be made public within seven days of notification of the winners. The Sponsors will notify the potential winner by phone, e-mail, or mail, and the potential winner will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility Statement and Liability/Publicity Release. Sponsor will select an alternative potential winner if the potential winner does not claim the prize within 72 hours after notification, or meet the eligibility criteria. The prizes will be awarded “AS IS” and WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, express or implied (including, but not limited to, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose).

Mailing List. By entering the Contest, you consent to being placed on a mailing list for promotional and other materials from the Sponsors. You may update or change your setting in your account at

Other Promotions. Please note that the Sponsors may be running similar contests at the same time as this Contest. By entering this Contest, you will not be eligible to receive any prize awarded in any other contests unless you enter each contest separately.

Withdrawal of Entry. You can withdraw your entry at any time during the Contest Period by going to your AUTHORS Activity page at and selecting ‘Withdraw’ next to your submission. Your entry and all information and uploads will be removed. This action will disqualify you from the Contest.

Additional Terms. The Sponsors may, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law and in the Sponsors’ sole discretion, change these Official Rules or cancel the Contest at any time; or modify, terminate, or suspend the Contest should viruses, worms, bugs, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond the Sponsors’ control corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of the Contest or submission of entries. The Sponsors are not responsible for: (a) lost, misdirected, late, incomplete, or unintelligible entries or for inaccurate entry information, whether caused by you or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest, or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of entries; (b) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest; (c) any error in the operation or transmission, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries, or for technical, network, telephone, computer, hardware or software, malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate transmission of, or failure to receive any entry information on account of, technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website; or (d) injury or damage to your or any other computer resulting from downloading any materials in connection with the Contest. The Sponsors may, in their sole discretion, disqualify any individual found to be: (x) tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or website; (y) acting in violation of these Official Rules; or (z) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. If your entry is incomplete or if you use robotic, automatic, programmed or similar entry methods, your entry will be void. The authorized subscriber of the e-mail account used to enter the Contest at the actual time of entry will be deemed to be the entrant and must comply with these Official Rules. The authorized account subscriber is the natural person who is assigned an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domains associated with the submitted e-mail address.

Miscellaneous. The Contest is governed by the laws of the United States. If you win the prize, you may not transfer, assign, or redeem the prize for cash. The Sponsors may substitute the prize with a prize of equal or greater value. The winner agrees (for himself or herself and his or her heirs) that, by accepting the prize, the Sponsors along with each of their respective subsidiaries, affiliates and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”), will have no liability, and will be held harmless by the winner for any liability, loss, injury or damage to property or person, including death, and reasonable attorneys’ fees and court costs, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by reason of the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the prize (including any travel/activity related thereto) or participation in the Contest, even if caused or contributed to by the negligence of any of the Released Parties. You agree that the Sponsors’ decisions related to the Contest and judging are final. The winner agrees that, by participating in the Contest, the Sponsors may use the winner’s name, image or likeness in any manner and in any medium for the Sponsors’ promotional purposes without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law, and the Sponsors may be required to disclose the winner’s address to state regulatory authorities.

Winner’s Name. After the Sponsors confirm the winners, the Sponsors will post the winners’ names at until October 10, 2016.
